Once upon a time, there was a well-known Japanese poet who went by the name Kobayashi Issa , or 小林一茶, which interestingly enough means "small forest cup of tea". How fitting. Noted as one of the 'four masters', he is one of the most prolific authors of the form of poetry now known as haiku. For your personal delectation I propose the following morsel:

露の世は
露の世ながら
さりながら

tsuyu no yo wa
tsuyu no yo nagara
sarinagara

My translation being:

This world
Is a dewdrop world
And yet... and yet...

As I prepare to leave this country, to once again abandon everything I have built and move on to newer pastures, I am reminded of the various times I have had to do this in the past. When I left the white shores of perfidious Albion I also left behind many people, of which several stand out in particular, whose absence in my life I felt keenly. When I left the Hexagon, that land of wine and cheese, I had begun to appreciate the temporary nature of my life. Now that I draw close to the time when I shall have to leave this land of the rising sun, I feel again the ambivalence of leaving one place and going to another.

This world is full of ephemeral relationships whose only mark on history is the memory of their existence, and yet some individuals have the ability to truly change our lives. It is those people I would like to thank today. They know who they are. I love you.
